The park is located on the Caribbean region, 80 km north of the city of Limón and is included in the Tortuguero Conservation Area. Tortuguero is a very important area for its remnants of the Tropical Very Humid Forest that practically covered all of Costa Rica’s northeast only 50 years ago. One of the reasons for its creation was the protection of green turtles, since this is the most important spawning area of the West Caribbean.
